Many older adults look forward to retirement as a time of relaxation and exploration, but for those who are caring for a spouse, parent or other family member, retirement doesn’t provide much respite. Caregiving, while meaningful and rewarding, can also be emotionally and physically draining, monotonous and isolating. And while it can feel impossible to take care of yourself while caring for a loved one, it is crucial to do so for the health and safety of yourself and the people you care for. In this workshop, Betsy Englander, LCSW will facilitate a discussion on how caregivers can navigate complex relationships and provide strategies to cope with the mental, physical, and emotional challenges that come with caregiving.

Having a dignified retirement requires having financial security. A number of policies affecting retirees' income have been in the news lately: WEP/GPO, COLA, and Retirement Plus. We will address the federal legislation to eliminate WEP/GPO as well as the two important state issues: increasing and expanding the teacher pension COLA (Cost Of Living Adjustment) system and passing House Bill 2630 (so-called R+ legislation), which would allow teachers who previously did not elect to participate in the alternative superannuation retirement benefit program to now make a one-time election to do so.
